The 2017 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is the sportiest model in the Pontiac brand's range, and while it's also the least exclusive, it might be the most coveted by enthusiasts.

For 2017, there are two models of the Pontiac Firebird Trans Am sold in the U.S.: the V8 Firebird Trans Am and V8 Trans Am Firebird (and their roadster variants). Other new features for 2017 include a sport button on V8 Firebird Trans Am and V8 Trans Am Firebird models, and an optional sports exhaust for the V8 Firebird Trans Am (standard on V8 Trans Am Firebird).

Starting from around $40 000 and moving upwards of $55 000 in top trims, the Firebird Trans Am comes with a strong standard feature set, including last years updates, which brought automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, and a backup camera.

Under the hood of the 2017 Firebird Trans Am range you'll find the base 4.5-liter V-8, rated at 420 horsepower and 346 pound-feet of torque, upgraded to 430 horspeower and 361 pound-feet of torque in V8 Firebird Trans Am trim. The 2017 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am gets a 560-horsepower, 6.0-liter V-8 engine rated at 450 pound-feet of torque. All models drive the rear wheels only, through a choice of a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed Sportshift II (Sportshift III in the case of the V8 Firebird Trans Am) automated manual transmission.

With its extra power, the 2017 V8 Firebird Trans Am is capable of a top speed of 205 mph and 0-60 mph acceleration in just 3.7 seconds
